Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in Uganda – in 2018 20% of all new cancers, and 35% of all new female cancers. A recent screen & treat camp for cervical cancer in Namayingo District where 576 women were screened found 11.5% women positive for precancerous or cancerous cells. This is 11.5% of all the women tested! At least one on ten of the women in Busoga is expected to develop cervical cancer – unless they are examined and treated at an early stage.
Join the fight against cancer
Uganda for the Roses will raise awareness of cancer, advocate for services and collect funds for Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja for much needed screening and treatment of women with early stages of cervical cancer and palliative care for those where the cancer is already very advanced. And will also raise funds for Cycling out of Poverty Foundation to equip more community health volunteers to improve access to the isolated communities. These community health volunteers are most peoples’ first (and sometimes only) access to health care. So, their job is immensely important. Equipping them with bicycles doubles the number of households which can be visited.
On 12th of October 2019 we are jointly organising the Uganda for the Roses – Beat Cancer charity event to beat cancer in Busoga Region by walking 5 km, running 5 or 10km or ride 15km.
Cycling out of Poverty Foundation and Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja need your help to make this event a success which can possibly change the life of many women in Busoga Region. Together let us take the first steps towards beating cervical cancer in Busoga Region.
